China is expected to send a high-level delegation to attend the international donors conference, scheduled to take place in Islamabad on November 19, seeking more foreign aid for earthquake victims.

A senior official of Chinese Foreign Ministry told newsmen that they had received the invitation and actively considering to participate in the event. "Chinese people are deeply concerned about the current difficulties in Pakistan caused by the devastated earthquake, and wished to extend all possible help," he added.

To a question, the official said China had sent over 110 tons of relief goods, including tents, quilts, padded mattresses and medicines for the earthquake victims, while several more relief consignments would also be dispatched to Pakistan in the coming few days.

China's relief aid to Pakistan has amounted to 20.5 million dollars, since the October 8 quake struck the south Asian country. This is in addition to the amount donated by the Chinese companies and individuals.

A 22-member delegation, led by Assistant Commerce Minister Chen Jian is already visiting Pakistan to assess the post-earthquake requirements. Red Cross Society of China is also on forefront generating funds for the victims.

According to the Society's Director Xiaohua Wang, they have made special arrangements with the co-operation of the Chinese airline to dispatch the relief goods to Pakistan at earliest.

Donations have also been made by the Pakistanis, residing in various parts of China. In this connection, Pakistan Embassy in Beijing held special briefing, updating the Chinese friends about the earthquake that caused widespread devastation in the country.

Ambassador Salman Bashir thanked the Chinese leadership and the people for their prompt and effective support.

Meanwhile, China welcomed opening of five points across the Line of Control in Kashmir and hoped that it would facilitate the relief and reconstruction operation in the earthquake affected areas.

We appreciate this decision, taken by the governments of Pakistan and India through mutual consultation, said a spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Kong Quan. China believed that such measures would also help to promote mutual trust and co-operation between the two neighbouring countries, he added.
